Spare a thought for Alan Johnston

At the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand last night, a vigil was held for the kidnapped BBC correspondent Alan Johnston. Seven weeks ago he was kidnapped in Gaza City and very little has been heard about him since. Last night in Thailand, Jonathan Head, the BBC’s correspondent for Southeast Asia, led the vigil for his friend and colleague at 8.15 p.m. It was broadcast on BBC World. There are campaigns all over the globe for Mr. Johnston’s release, although an unknown military group has said that it killed Mr. Johnston earlier this month. This report is still unconfirmed, and Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Azzam al-Ahmad said last week that he is alive and well.

Let’s hope he is released soon. Our thoughts from Thailand.
