Australian tourist raped on Koh Samui
I can only find one news story covering this. It looks like they are trying to keep it quiet. On Wednesday, an Australian tourist was raped at a resort on Koh Samui.
Today, according to the Bangkok Post, “Somchai Duanglai, 26, a native of Sakon Nakhon, was arrested at a rented house near Samui airport.”
The 20-year-old victim was sleeping alone in her room at 5 am when a man broke in raped her. DNA tests have nailed Somchai already.

You seem to be focussed on this kind of things… rape, murder, drowning lately. Thinking about resizing this weblog to tabloid format? As long as you also provide a page 3 then. :-)
It's sad for the Australian woman and again a quick result of Thai Police.
A friend of my girlfriend was nearly raped in her own bedroom some months ago. She works in a hotel on Koh Samui. The story didn't make it to the newspaper and local police wasn't too interested either.
Yes, I think perhaps the focus is a bit off. I should really think of some other things to write about or else this blog will become just too morbid.
I was at the police conference held yesterday in which they announced all of this to the press as well as have the suspect on display. We were told it takes 7 days to get DNA testing done so I don't know where you got your info. about the results having "already nailed him".
This was reported by the Post. As far as I'm aware, DNA testing can be done in a matter of hours.
This is scary. I'm so used to Vietnam, where I feel 100% safe and have never had a bad experience. I used to feel pretty safe in BKK, too, but my friends are scaring me with stories of sexual assaults against women. A big problem or hype? (Did I tell you I'm moving to BKK in July?)
