Being offered porn work in Thailand

May 7th, 2008 by The Lost Boy

I received something of an indecent proposal through a forum last week. Firstly, the forum I’m talking about is Thailand Friends, an odd community of Thais and expats who, from what I can tell, are looking for people to date. I registered about one year ago and then left my account unattended until I received an email informing me I’d received what they call a “testimonial”, which is basically a random person leaving you a message.

Anyway, I logged on and had a look through the site again, added a few posts on the forum and engaged in some menial banter. Imagine my surprise, then, to receive this in a private message:

Hi, been looking in your profile and wanted to ask if you are interested to take part in adult projects as a model, I’m connected to few in gay, shemale and straight niches. Interested work and good pay guaranteed. Let me know plz.

Cheers, Meow

Despite signing off as “Meow”, the profile of the person belongs to a dude named Meec.

So basically this guy was asking me to do porn, if my understanding of “adult projects” is correct. If this were a spam mail then I wouldn’t have given it much thought, but this came through a public forum, so I can only imagine how many other people have received similar messages.

While the words “good pay guaranteed” may usually spark my interest, I decided to pass on this offer.

Has anyone else ever receive unsolicited offers to start in porn in Thailand? I dread to think what state some of the “stars” would be in if this guy is recruiting through Thailand Friends. Is this the state of the porn industry in Thailand? The mind boggles.

good to know that you don’t start to work in the porn industry.
that you don’t prostitute yourself or at least not your body.
but i have to say the way you try desperately bring traffic to your blog with placing the ‘right’ keywords in all you text about ‘living in thailand’ is Hardcore.
unobtrusive and pleasant like a bulgarian donkey scat & double anal rape movie.

okay, i can understand that you want make money.
you have done with your “medical” blog and it could also work with you “music” blog. if things like that really pays off, why not do it.
but here on that much more “personal” blog, where you stand behind with your good name, i would not do it. with your focus on page rank and traffic score you become crazy and foolish. don’t get lost in SEO tactics.

throw your spam mails in the bin. there must be more interesting stories you could report from phuket or your daily life as alien in an other culture. be more creative, work on your skills as a writer. you can do it.
the old (puzzled) ‘lost boy’ observer stories have been a nice read. (sometimes remind my little bit on the postcards from Uncle Traveling Matt, the character from the TV series Fraggle Rock.)
that is a basis to develop ‘the lost boy’ as a trade name, as a signature of a serious writer, a real autor. a long and hard way to go, but in the end the pay off can be better. at least you remain true to yourself. don’t spoil it.

one last question, was there really someone called himself ‘Meow’ or is ‘Meow’ a word in the last month top-20 queries that drove traffic to your blog?

Peter, calm down. This article has nothing to do with keywords. I have enough traffic already. And yes, the guy was really named “Meow”. I thought this was a funny story. Obviously you didn’t. I take it that this is a common occurrence for you, then. As for me, it’s not. And it wasn’t a spam mail.

So, straight is considered a niche nowadays. :P

In Thailand, it might well be.

Could you elaborate on that? The Thai porn industry is flourishinhg and always has been. Farangs make a lot of money “employing” Thai boyz and girlz to do porn movies. The job can pay up to 30,000 baht for unprotrected sex. This is no secret, you just have to go out of your bubble.

Matt, I am worried about you. Despite the time you have been living in Thailand you seem to discover things that most of us have come through rather quickly…

    “Could you elaborate on that?”

Have you seen the people who frequent Thailand Friends? That was my point. I don’t think you need to worry me, this was just the first time I have been offered porn work and as I am not a porn star, a model, a Thai boy or a Thai girl, it made me question what type of end product would be produced were I to become involved.

I’m just a random guy. So there must be a lot of random guys in Thailand making porn. I’ve never had much interest in low-budget porn, the same as I didn’t when I was in the UK.

Perhaps my lack of expertise in the UK casts a shadow on my 22 years of living there. I should hang my head in shame.

Roger- I’m concerned about you. Most of us in Thailand have been able to ignore and overlook the obvious pitfalls such as getting into the adult scene in Bangkok. If you have gone so far as to even find out how much you can make for “unprotected sex” on film then I really do suggest you extradite yourself from the situation ASAP.
