Bizarre Chulalongkorn University videos

Addendum: Less than a day after the two Chula videos started getting a lot of attention on Twitter, they've now both been made private by the university, but… they've been reuploaded by another user, so don't panic, although the picture quality isn't quite up to scratch.

Chulalongkorn University (Thai: จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย) (commonly abbreviated as "Chula") is the oldest university in Thailand[2] and has long been considered the country's most prestigious university.

  1. Exhibit B sounds suspiciously like the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

  2. Ester says:

Hmm, you do not understand humor and/or Sanuk and/or parody, or what is so "bizarre" about it?

  3. The Lost Boy says:

Nothing, Ester. It's perfectly normal for a country's top university to mimic North Korean propaganda with poorly written lyrics about throwing books away, being gay and retaking exams. Perfectly normal.

  4. Ester says:

Looks like you have only a limited ability for sarcasm, but on the other hand have some talent for paranoia and chicanery.

Oh, I don't quite think they mean the word "gay" in a sexual way, BTW. But you are welcome to entertain such erotic thoughts. To each his own.

  5. The Lost Boy says:

I'll be honest, I didn't see anything erotic in those videos.

  6. Ester says:

PS: I still did not get why you though those videos were "bizarre". To me it seems you are being a bit of a curmudgeon.

  7. The Lost Boy says:

They're bizarre because the level of English used by Thailand's top uni is terrible. The lyrics themselves are laughable. And then there's the North Korean marching song that is supposed to be some kind of uni anthem. Do you honestly think those kind of videos are normal and reflect well on the nation's finest academic institution?

  8. Oneditorial says:

I find the videos quite funny. They made me laugh. They aren't supposed to be taken seriously.

  9. The Lost Boy says:

Indeed, they have made me laugh.

  10. Ester says:

Yes, those videos are funny, and whether you like it or not, the English language is not the exclusive property of the English anymore, people are free to use it as they wish, whether your precious little ears are hurt by it or not.

Again, do give the performer a bit of credit, just because they are not white does not mean they are stupid.

  11. Ester says:

PS: Re. North Korean propaganda, yes, they use such imagery, because it is so over the top it is funny. Loosen up! Did you really spend time in Thailand? You cannot have been very happy there if you always were so stuck up.
