I've written about this a few times. When I first traveled to Thailand, I was changing up something like 75 baht to the pound. This was about four years ago. Today, the not-so-sturdy British pound is at one to 47.6128 baht. There were people doubting that it would sink to 50, but to go below 50 is astounding. Well, it's astounding to me anyway.

I'm in a terrible position at the moment because I live in a country that uses US dollars. The pound is trading at one to 1.36644 US dollars. Remember the good old days when it was one pound to two dollars? What this means for me is that I'm reluctant to withdraw money and I'm also reluctant to buy anything with my credit card. However, next time I'm in Thailand, I will wire whatever money I have in baht straight to the UK.

I wired some money from Thailand to the UK last month and I got about 52 baht to the pound, which I was pleased with. Of course, if the pound doesn't recover then I won't be as pleased, but I have blind faith that one day the currency of my home country will be strong again.
