Interesting bit of news today. The guys behind BK mag (Asia/Azia City) are setting up a tourist rag in Phuket. For anyone who might want a job in the media in Phuket, now’s your chance. I’m guessing the salary would be pretty decent, but I just find it hard to imagine that there is room [...]

BK magazine is coming to Phuket
Quick note
To everyone who responded to my call for guest posts on other blogs: I haven’t forgotten about you, but I just need a bit of time to actually write the posts. I’m hoping to get them all out by the end of this week. So please bear with me for a few days — I’m [...]
Twiterring the ‘coup’
If you want follow everything that is going on in Bangkok now, in real time, log on to Twitter and follow:
Bangkok Pundit
Dan
Luke
and me, although I’m not actually there at the moment.
This is the power of social media.
Who killed the top 100?
I should be angry, but it’s no big deal. It happens. Someone exploited a security flaw in the top 100 and wiped all the blogs. I know how they did it and it’s my fault for leaving it vulnerable yesterday. I’ll add the blogs back into the system tonight. I don’t care who did it [...]
You know you’ve been in Thailand too long when…
You know you’ve been in Thailand too long when you find out through Wikipedia that you’re father has become a Lib Dem politician and last year stood in a local election for a council seat.
He didn’t win the election, but there are more than 800 people in his particular ward who had faith enough to [...]
When the pressures of work appear in your dreams
I don’t mind that my job is hard work, but I know that when aspects of my life start appearing in my dreams, it means that they are heavily weighing on my mind. How do people deal with high-pressure jobs?
My job isn’t exactly high pressure, but it’s given me an insight into the conditions that [...]
Checking out the restaurants in Phuket
Probably the two topics that I am asked to write about the most are bars and restaurants in Phuket. I’m not too much into home cooking so I eat out in Phuket every day. The food scene in Phuket is pretty diverse, but on the whole, it lacks the real edge that you can find [...]
Vacation and blog hibernation
I will be away from all things Internet related for the next few days as I am taking a much-needed (short) vacation from work and this blog. I will be doing the same next weekend, so don’t expect many posts ni between. I’ve been working quite a lot recently and sleeping at the most bizarre [...]
Rainbow around the sun
Did anyone else in Thailand see this curious spectacle last Friday? I’m unsure if it was limited to Phuket, but sure enough, there was a rainbow around the sun. I tried in vain to catch a glimpse of the rainbow with my naked eyes and subsequently spent the proceeding 30 minutes completely blind.
It was only [...]
Congratulations to the people of Bangkok
Your parties to raise money for the people affected by Cyclone Nagris were a tremendous success.
When are your parties for the Chinese affected by the recent earthquake?
Thailand blogger sued for defamation
I’ve been keeping tabs on a certain area of the Internet recently. In this particular area, a prolific Thailand blogger is currently being sued by one, possibly two, real estate agents for defamation. This, the latest turn in a bizarre string of events, poses interesting implications for bloggers in Thailand and around the world.
While most [...]
Remembering Ian Curtis
Today marks 28 years since the death of Ian Curtis. He died at the age of 23, more than two years before I was born. He would have been 52 this year. For someone who died so young, so long ago, Ian Curtis has had an unprecedented impact on modern-day music, in a similar way [...]
The day there was no news
By Jason Arber.
Adam Buxton once did something similar.
I find both of these videos really quite intriguing.
Some facts about Coke
After drinking about one liter of Pepsi Max a day for several weeks, I found these facts about Coke (is there really much difference) that made me decide to stick with water for the time being.
In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway [...]

My name is Matt and I’m the author of this blog. I first traveled to Thailand in 2005 and started working in Bangkok. My time in Thailand has been spent mostly working, often writing and occasionally traveling around Thailand's islands or other points of interest. I now live in Phuket, Southern Thailand. I plan to stay in Thailand for as long as the buzz is still there. I'm a writer and editor, working for a Phuket newspaper and freelancing for various publications. Thailand is my home, for now, and no, I'm not just another expat loser ...
