I was looking on a map of Thailand the other day when I realised I'd never heard of Chachoengsao province, despite the fact that it's right next to Bangkok. Feeling a little foolish, I did a quick Google search and found that it's not a place that really gets written about very much — in English at least. So with that in mind, I decided to take a trip to Chachoengsao and see what I've been missing out on.
It was easy to get to. We took a 65-baht minivan from Eakamai. Once there, we checked out Wat Sothorn, Banmai market, Wat Chin Prachasamoson and a few other spots around the main town. It's a quiet place, very Chinese. I'd recommend it for a day trip or an overnighter. It's cheap and easy to get around thanks to an abundance of songthaew so you can really go wild with your exploring.
We didn't see any other foreigners there during our visit, so I think it's safe to say Chachoengsao isn't really on the tourist map. I took some pics. A few are below and the rest are on my FlickR account.
