Come share with me
Come share with me, by FlickR user Preety1996

Now that my studies are over I've taken a little time out to reacquaint myself with my old social media accounts, some of which I have been neglecting for the past year. I started a few new accounts to replace older ones that were used purely to generate traffic for my websites. I'm getting back into a sharing frame of mind. But why bother, you may ask? Well, sharing is what the Internet is all about and if you aren't sharing then you're missing out on being part of a community that thrives on new information, be it news stories, videos, photos or whatever. While the bulk of my social sharing has a Southeast Asian slant, I do regularly venture down other paths. Here are the main services I use at the moment.

Stumbleupon: I've used Stumbleupon under various guises for a few years now. It's a great engine and I regularly come across gems while Stumbling. I mostly share stories about Southeast Asia or offbeat bits and bobs I find along the way. I've also had some good experience getting huge bursts of traffic from Stumbleupon.

Twitter: I've been on Twitter for a little more than four years. I use it to get a large chunk of my daily news reads by following people around the world who Tweet useful links about various topics. I Tweet mostly about Southeast Asia, UK politics, music and other things.

FlickR: One of my favs. I use FlickR to archive and share photos I've taken from places such as Bangkok, Bali, Java, Dili and London.

Google+: Google+ is still finding its feet, but given how large people's circles are becoming, it won't take long before more people are sharing useful links.

Digg: I've been in and out of love with Digg for a while. I use it to share mostly offbeat stories I come across, videos in particular.

Delicious: I'm back Delicious after a hiatus and am using it to share links solely related to Southeast Asia. On this blog you'll notice that my Delicious bookmarks can be accessed from the sidebar.

Youtube: I upload little videos I've put together here.

Last FM: A fun tool that allows you to share music you're listening to from your computer and iPod.

LinkedIn: LinkedIn is kind of an online resume, so it's useful for connecting with people in your industry and a good way of promoting your skills and experience. It's like networking, but without all the awkward smalltalk.
