Culture One Thailand 2012

If you were in Bangkok in 2008 you might have come across the inaugural Culture One, an outdoor dance music festival held at BITEC Bang-na in the vein of Creamfields, Zookout and the like. The first Culture One was good fun, even though David Morales cried on stage (the highlight that year was Stanton Warriors).

They've done the festival every year since in January or February. The lineups have never been mindblowing, but they've been decent enough with reasonably priced tickets. Local talent is always well represented, too. The folks behind the festival are well known in the nightlife scene, although I haven't heard much about what they've been up to this year.

For those who don't know, Culture One is done by the people who own Club Culture, which used to be at Thanon Sri Ayutthaya and then was near Democracy Monument and now is somewhere in Siam. Before Club Culture they ran Club Astra in RCA, which is currently branded as LED. They also own or owned Cafe Democ at Democracy Monument, but I think they recently sold it to Buddy Group and opened another new venue in Silom.

Confusion aside, the last thing I expected to see was a Culture One event this year, but sure enough, they've announced one on their Facebook page for November 10 with tickets going on sale September 1. There's no word yet on the DJs booked, but for those who of us underwhelmed by Sensation Thailand's ridiculous ticket prices and dull lineup, this is all welcome news.

See you there?
