Thailand ladyboys and the pop band Venus Flytrap
Today I have been wondering why Thai ladyboy band Venus Vlytrap are not selling any records. They’ve had an almighty publicity campaign behind them for months. Their songs have been played on the BTS and in 7-Eleven. So why are they not the overnight success that other packaged bands have become? Even the international media has now taken an interest, although it was slow off the mark. They should be selling millions of records, but as of yet, they’re not.
They have a great gimmick (they are Thai ladyboys/shemales), they’ve been trained to perform professionally, they understand the benefit of the press, and they’re nice girls. I was one of the first people to interview the band in November last year, and from sitting down with them for an hour or so I truly believed they were onto something, especially in Thailand. Perhaps they will do better in the international market where gimmick acts (particularly in the UK) are all but adored.

I think when it comes to uber commercial pop, people still want to buy records from people they’d like to f*ck. I think they’re not selling a lot of records for the same reason you don’t see that many obese pop stars.
It is a bit of a shame. I saw them at the premiere of 300, they do know how to perform.
