Lost Boy hits Page Rank 5?
February 27th, 2008 by The Lost Boy
Something weird is going on with Google’s Page Rank. The last update was about January 10 and it’s usually done every three months or so. However, people are reporting fluctuations in their Page Ranks.
This blog is currently showing a PR5, which would mark an increase from the PR4 I’ve had for a year or so now. I’m hoping this holds as it would be a major milestone.
It’s difficult to tell whether this is a real update because the datacenters are coming back with strange results. This will mean nothing to most of you.

Matt, where do you check your page rank? In all honesty, it’s been months since I’ve checked mine, mostly due to the unreliability of Technorati and other such sites. I might be more inclined to check PR if there was a way to do it without having to search through dozens of sites to find a link.

It’s still at 4 tho mate, same as my photoblog and portfolio site

Hmm. It’s showing 5 in toolbars but 4 and 5 in different PR checkers. JohnChow.com has gone down to 3, bloggingexperiment.com has gone up to 3 from 0. Something’s going on.

I’m seeing it as a PR4 in my toolbar as well as in my SEOQuake plugin. It would be a great thing for you though Matt. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the PR5.
@Chani - Your site is showing as a PR4 as well. If you’re really interested in seeing it constantly you can download the Google Toolbar here –> http://toolbar.google.com

Mine says “Page Rank 4″. I guess that’s okay for a personal blog. :)
Do you think linking to the Page Rank really makes a difference?

Sorry to tell you it did not go up. Have a look there: http://www.urltrends.com/viewtrend.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwhatismatt.com
That is a good site for all values. And your Netcraft site rank is 679.155

Well, it’s still showing PR5 in my toolbar on a different computer. Also, at the link above, the Alexa ranking is out of date. I’ll cross my fingers and hope for the best. I usually use smartpagrank.com and digpagerank.com as the most reliable sources, but neither of those are working at the moment.
We’ll see.

PR was a big thing a few years ago, I really don’t worry about it now. Of more interest is where my sites rank in Google searches since so much traffic comes from Google and higher rankings means more visitors. PR is a nice little widget, but not something I would be worried about. Better worry more about good quality original content.

(jealous… I want PR 5 too)

Can I ask a question? Why is it a major milestone to hit a GPR 5? I never understand the hype with google page rank… it doesn’t increase revenue, nor hits….

It does increase revenue. The value of a link, review or ad no a PR5 blog is usually more than a PR4 blog. It’s also good for bragging rights.

Congrats on the PR5 (it’s showing up that way on my browser). That’s awesome. I’m down to a PR 3 now since moving from Blogger to my own domain, but I expect it’ll work its way up to a PR 4 eventually, since I’m getting twice as many hits now.

It’s a mystery to me how you with your meager content should get those hits.
As you yourself suggest, something must be wrong.

Yawn.
