My first Adsense cheque arrived today

Today was a long day. For the past week I’ve been frantically trying to master Page Maker 7 before one of the guys I work with leaves. He’s my main source of Page Maker knowledge as he sits right next to me. When you watch someone who can really use the software lay a page in a couple of minutes it’s like poetry in digital motion.

Using Page Maker is easy; using it effectively and efficiently is not. It will take me some time and be a source of occasional headaches, but I’m in a good place for learning it. My only previous experience was with a very old version of Quark… on a mac… for a newspaper that didn’t chase me up on my errors. How times have changed.

I got home exhausted and had to postpone an interview I was supposed to do tonight until Wednesday night. I was delighted to receive some mail, and even more delighted that it turned out to be my first Adsense cheque, to the sum of 9,369.75 baht.

An Adsense cheque

It’s not going to break the bank, but it’s a decent stack to add to my savings. I felt a bit underpaid thanks to the baht’s strength and the dollar’s weakness, but I shouldn’t complain. Adsense is not the sole source of income from this blog, and my clicks don’t generate huge streams of revenue, but for something I enjoy doing it’s great to get occasional bonuses.

If you have a blog and want to make money from it, Adsense is as good a place to start as any. The only way to really utilize it, however, is to have large flows of traffic, which requires some work. I have a new blog that deals with such subjects and I will be letting you in on that shortly.

The only other service I would recommend to Thailand’s bloggers for generating revenue from your blog is Text Link Ads (affiliate link). I’ve mentioned the company before. All you do is sign up and place some code on your blog, and then they sell text links on your behalf. You need a decent Page Rank to really benefit, but given time these things are easily attainable.

I won’t be going to Vegas any time soon, but I can at least buy a new pair of socks and some dried cuttle fish from 7-Eleven.

I would definitely like to get some input from you about increasing traffic! My numbers have been going down the tubes lately. Technorati has dropped 200 points off my authority and Google Reader has really reduced my daily hits.

Do you have any ideas? Not looking to make money at this point ~ but would like to know some tricks. :)

    Peace,

    ~Chani

  2. Wow, cool! How long did you have to wait? 1 month? 2 months?

  3. Elemmaciltur says:

OMG, how cool is that? Up until now, I've got $11.49 after two years of Adsense. :-p

I'm pretty sure it's against Google's T&Cs to disclose your earnings. Certainly used to be. Careful now…

  5. vanalli says:

    From Google's T&C:

However, You may accurately disclose the amount of Google’s gross payments to You pursuant to the Program.

    Cool 9,369.75 THB = 1,072.56 MYR = 309.258 USD
Well if you do not need cash it urgently, you can always have the cheque in USD or GBP and the local bank will clear it in 3 weeks.
Oh I just hate adsense, I'm like ban for life.

ditto for the time period – big difference between 9k baht over 1 yr vs 1 month!

  9. vanalli says:

The money was almost all earned over a period of three months. I didn't start making any money on Adsense until about three months ago. Not all that impressive, but I've learnt quite a lot about how to use Adsense now.

Okay. Lesson learned. Do not ask questions here.

    Good luck to you. :)

  14. vanalli says:

No, do ask questions. I'm just on a bit of a time delay.

Nice going but just a word of advice: Keep your day job :-)
