My thoughts on Phuket flights

It didn’t take many weeks of living in Phuket for me to need to make the trip to Bangkok. Whereas before I would have usually taken the bus, with work commitments and a little more money in my pocket, flying seemed like the best option. It wasn’t until I was in Phuket that I discovered just how cheap Phuket flights are.

I’d say I flew between Phuket and Bangkok maybe six or seven times during my time living on the island. Phuket flights are generally painless, occasionally late and always reasonably priced.

The airline I booked the majority of my Phuket flights with is Air Asia. The only reason I chose Air Asia is because they are so cheap. They also have a website that doesn’t appear to get messed up as much as some of the other airlines. Air Asia offers cheap Phuket flights with absolutely no frills.

There is free food served on Air Asia flights, but you can pay extra for it and it comes in the form of tiny sandwiches and cup noodles. For such a short flight, however, you may as well just wait until you get to your destination.

I flew One-Two-Go a couple of times. One-Two-Go has generally been a steady supplier of Phuket flights, although the air crash of a couple of years ago is still in most people’s memories. One-Two-Go is again no frills. They did, however, used to have a great in-flight magazine run by Alasdair Forbes. The magazine has since been taken over and might actually be completely dead in the water now.

I flew Nok Air maybe once of twice. Nok Air offers Phuket flights, but the whole affair wasn’t especially memorable. I didn’t have any major complaints anyway.

I have never flown Bangkok Airways because I’ve never needed to fly to Samui. Also, Bangkok Airways is generally quite expensive. The same can be said of Thai Airways, although every time I’ve flown Thai Airways the experience has been wholly positive.

In terms of cheap Phuket flights, I will always recommend Air Asia. Sure, the flights are sometimes delayed or cancelled, but when you’re paying $50, it doesn’t hurt to have to wait an hour or two.
