Student activist and Uni of London President Clare Solomon this week survived a vote of no-confidence at SOAS, where the 37-year-old is enrolled as a student. Solomon, who supports militancy in the campaign for free education, was called out for being a "a prominent member of the radical, militant, far left organisation Counterfire". Counterfire, you may recall, are the folks behind the more radical aspects of the recent protests in London.

A few notes from the motion worth highlighting:

Clare Solomon in her time at SOAS launched a campaign of intellectual intimidation. Those who opposed her doctrine were victimised, those who spoke against her and her acolytes at UGM’s were heckled and her motions and agendas were pushed through by any means necessary with no regard for legitimate democratic process or freedom of speech when it was expedient to ignore these values.

Ms Solomon on the Jeremy Vine Show stated that criminal damage was a legitimate form of protest.

Every one of the protests thus far has been marred by some kind of "isolated incident" involving a "small group of troublemakers". How long are we going to keep doing this? There are plans for more protests after Christmas and as long as people like Counterfire are involved, I am certain there will be repeat incidents like Millbank, the royal car and so on.

Solomon was allegedly "thrown out of the ultra-left Socialist Workers’ Party because of her extremist views".

Is this the woman we want leading the country's students?
