New policies will eliminate the South Thailand insurgency?
General Boonrawd Somtas may well be the most optimistic man in all of Thailand after yesterday’s comments. With regards to the problems in southern Thailand, General Boonrawd said that although “Violence… at the moment seems not to be getting better,” he believes that “the instigators are on their last leg.” And the reason for such a rosy outlook? “The current regime has set up policies that are now coming into effect,” he said. Maybe once the killings stop we’ll be able to commend the general’s vision.

The difference is clear now. More and more insurgents are being arrested whereas they were never arrested before.
