To stay or to go
I’m beginning to feel like it’s time to move on. I’ve been in Thailand for 19 months and I am unsettled by the same thoughts that were crossing my mind when I decided to leave the UK in 2004. Everything seems to be winding down now and the only thing that is really keeping me here is work. I enjoy my job, but money has been playing on my mind a lot recently. I don’t want to go back home; not to live anyway. I don’t think I ever will.
At the moment, I would like to go and visit friends and family in the UK, fly to Japan or China on my own to spend a few weeks seeing things I’ve never seen, and then end up in Australia to try and face something vaguely resembling real life; I think I’m ready for that now. I have enough money to get myself set up, although I do worry that I may spend all my money getting myself set up without actually finding a job. If that happened then I’d be in an awkward place.
I’m going to take a nap and see if I can’t wake up feeling slightly more positive. Girls, work, money, life: Four things that have been playing on my mind a lot recently.

I sympathise and know how you feel, though from a slightly different perspective. I think there comes a point when you have to either throw your lot in with Thailand or move on. Only problem is, no matter how much you may think you’re permanent you will never actually be permanent in Thailand. Sounds like crunch time. Needs careful thought, I know many people who opted for the wrong decision years ago and now have no choice but to stay. good luck.

“Girls, work, money, life: Four things that have been playing on my mind a lot recently.”
Are those things in any particular order? :) I do note that girls came in first on that list.

You are still young, Lost Boy. There is a storm inside of your heart, your mind. No matter where you go, that storm will always be there. You can run, but not fast enogh to escape that storm.

restless. eyes on the horizon. i know that feeling. it helps if you look for a place or something to GO TO, rather than just GOING AWAY FROM. two reasons to leave a place: to go to another place, or to get away from the place you are. if it’s to get away, you have to carefully examine what it is your are getting away from. if, as Jason suggests in his comment, you are trying to get away from a ’storm’ in your own heart and mine, you will carry it with you when you get away. where ever you go, you take your brain along. never the less, sometimes it’s just time to be moving on. Chok Dee.
