Stupid Windows upside-down screen feature

August 28th, 2007 by The Lost Boy

I was using my laptop when all of a sudden I pressed something and the whole screen flipped upside down. Way to go with the useless function Microsoft. I fiddled about and tried to re-press whatever it was I’d pressed to make my screen flip the wrong way and I eventually managed to rotate the whole thing 90 degrees.

What was most confusing was that the mouse directions also switched, so I had no idea what was going on. After about 15 minutes of pushing buttons, I finally got it back the right way around. Turns out that holding Alt and Ctrl and hitting an arrow key will flip the screen, but what you’d use this for with Windows XP on a laptop I don’t know. I guess it would be useful on a tablet PC.

har har, funny shortcut. didn’t work on my windows, but i will try to confuse my friends if i get a minute with their laptop alone for me, unobserved.

have fun in the office tomorrow, and later post some photos of your co-workers performing a headstand in front of the computer.

It’s not a standard Windows option. Usually it is an option of your graphics chipset or video driver.

Can’t really think of a way to use it, accept for troubleshooting of video problems.

this function is not a windows one and also is not pointless the video cards are made that way because if you use LCD screen or other screen that are able to be turned so if you want to see a picture longways you could flip the whole screen manually and turn it on the display aswell… reason why it only works on notebooks (laptops) is because they have different cards…

my 16month old was playing with my keyboard and suddenly flipped my screen, otherwise, I won’t be looking for this. Thanks for posting the tip.
