Watching the sunset at Promthep Cape, Phuket

Leaving Bangkok wasn’t difficult. My reasons for getting out of the City of Angels were varied: I was bored with my job, wanted a change of social scene, was dying to breathe clean air, and felt like my time in Bangkok was up.
The first thing my work colleagues asked me when I told them I was leaving was how much bigger my salary was going to be. When I told them I was taking a pay cut they looked at me like I was insane.
I’m happy with my move to Phuket. My job is demanding but rewarding, it’s been easy to meet people, and I finally feel like I’m in a place where I can feel comfortable. Last night I went to Promthep Cape to watch the sun set with some friends. It was one of those scenes you can’t reproduce in Bangkok and it was a moment in which I felt reassured that leaving the big city was the right thing for me to do.
If you’re ever in Phuket and you’re stuck for something to do one evening, I’d recommend a visit to Promthep Cape. It’s the best place to see the sun set on the island and it’s quite a spectacle.
On the evening I went there were too many clouds for the sunset to really be spectacular, but it was still a great view. Promthep Cape is near Rawai Beach in the southernmost area of Phuket. It’s only about half an hour’s drive from Phuket Town.
As well as the sun set to watch, there’s a lighthouse and a statue honouring Admiral His Royal Highness Prince Abhakara Kiartiwonges. There are plenty of places to eat and hang out in the area, and it’s the ideal place to take a loved one.

hmm.. looks nice, maybe i mis-judged phuket. i always thought of it as bangkok-on-sea but i’ve only ever been to the not-so-tranquil areas of Phuket Town and *ahem* Patong.
