The joys of Thai street food

Thai street foodAh, Thai street food. If there’s one thing I would miss dearly were I to ever leave Thailand it would be street food. The fact that I never have to cook is something of a curse and a blessing, but while I’m here I am deeply satisfied with my daily eats. So you get sick from Thai street food every now and then, and occasionally the food comes with enough cilantro to make me want to vomit (anybody else?), but where else in the world could you eat such a variety of foods on the street for such reasonable prices? And nobody ever died from eating street food, right?

Take this meat product on a stick (pictured, left). I’m not even sure what it is, but for five baht I see no reason to complain. I’m lucky to live at Victory Monument in Bangkok because the street food here is excellent. From awesome kao man gai next to Fashion Mall, to tiny bowls of delicious khoi teaw round the corner by the khlong.

It’s too difficult to really recommend the best places to eat street food in Bangkok. You have to discover them for yourself, but the fact that there is so much of it, everywhere you walk, makes this an easy task. You don’t even really need to pick and choose your preferred places to eat street food because wherever you go, there will be food.

Here’s to Thai street food; long may it reign!

Love your site! You really have this blogging thing down. Oh yeah, and I vow to at least once in my life try Thai street food.

Gosh…I so miss street food. Unfortunately, my Americanized digestive systems don't agree with me that much. The past few times of braving street foods, I ended up in the hospital. The closest I can get is the mall's food court. That's it.

  4. Street food is also one of my favorite things in Thailand ~ along with the reasonable prices. Your picture looks like satay chicken (or beef… can't tell).

    Peace,

me and my younger brother picked up some real nice barbecue on a phillipine beach and it looked much like the food on the picture. my bro googled its name and it turned out it is rat meat. that's right RAT MEAT. i don't think they sell rat in bangkok though, what you've eaten is propably pork.

damn i miss bangkok. i only have the blogs and fond memories *sniff* enjoy your stay man

Ahha… Moo yang/ moo bing. My Aunt used to make it and sell it at the victory monument. My mum knows how to make it too, and it's always a hit at our bbq parties. I will learn it one day too, I guess, but for now, I'll just eat it.
