Thaksin's multi-billion baht assets ordered to be frozen
Well now. I’ve just read this sensational news on The Nation website:
Assets Examination Committee (AEC) ordered the freezing of all [Thaksin’s] bank accounts, issued inside and outside Thailand and at all financial institutions.
It also ordered banks that Thaksin and associates have accounts to report all money transaction of Thaksin and his wife's bank accounts, starting from 2001, the year Thaksin became prime minister.
Let’s take a minute to digest this. Both Thaksin and his wife have had their assets frozen. That’s $1.5 billion in 21 banks accounts. The seizure, however, is not final, and you can bet your breakfast money on Thaksin fighting this in court.
This from AFP/Reuters:
Thaksin's Bangkok-based lawyer, Noppadol Pattama, vowed to fight the ruling, which he describes as "an affront to the rule of law that tarnishes Thailand's image in the international arena".
I guess that’s what you’d call a pot calling a kettle black.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out, particularly so with regards to all those people protesting at Sanam Luang every day; they surely won’t like this news, which comes a day after Prime Minister Surayud addressed the nation saying that corruption must stop and the rule of the law must prevail.

If the Government hoped Thaksin would quietly disappear into oblivion then this decision will have the opposite effect. He'll fight this all the way, and create headlines around the world by doing so.
He's not been found guilty of anything (yet), right? Let's hope evidence is found soon or this will be another decision which has the potential to damage Thailand on the world stage.
Andrew you mean to say that Thaksin Shinawatra is NOT yet guilty of election fraud that led to the dissolution of his party Thai Rak Thai ? Huh? You are NOT suggesting that two top officers of Thai Rak Thai party on their own initiative and without any instruction from Beloved Leader would just go out on their own and start suborning small parties? Hey hey hey! Was it NOT Thaksin Shinawatra who is the master suborner of Thailand . . The Man! The Suborning Master Thaksin Shinawatra almost succeeded in buying Thailand . . . using Thai taxpayers money of course!
