Thaksin is a political prisoner

The Supreme Court has just blocked Thaksin's request to visit China and the UK.

Is this justifiable given that he has not been found guilty in a court of law of any of the charges brought against him ?

  1. Well, officially, he's on bail so most countries have rules in place barring someone awaiting trial on bail from travelling outside the country unless given court permission.

    The fear is that the accused may not return if the case looks bad against him. Considering that part of his legal team has just been jailed for attempting to bribe a judge . . . he may well be a risk of not returning.

    I would say he's a pretty big flight risk seeing as things have not been going how he had hoped since arriving back in Thailand.

    As Billy said this isn't out of the norm for most countries.

    I disagree. He hasn't shown any signs that he would not cooperate with court proceedings. And why stop him from travelling now, but not before?

    Lets see we might be in for a big surprise in the coming days. I still think he will leave somehow before he ever goes to jail here.

    The official explanation is that his request was refused because at the same time there are important witness testimony planned.
    So no, he is not a political prisoner, just a guy accused of corruption, free on bail, but at the disposition of the court.
