What has happened to Ian Brown?
September 25th, 2007 by The Lost Boy
I got the new Ian Brown album, The World is Yours, today and was really excited to listen to it. It’s awful though. I don’t know why he bothers churning out these ludicrous albums any more. This is his fifth solo album since the split of The Stone Roses, and it’s just ugly. Too many orchestral pieces and some really poor lyrics. And there’s a duet with Sinead O’Connor, which is usually the kiss of death for any album.
What a let down.

i disagree.
the current state of world affairs is a fucking mess, and it’s nice to see someone use their status in order to highlight the issues. “Illegal Attacks” is lyrically brilliant. Not only does it show that the UK/US were involved with illegal attacks, but the video is also damn good.

Don’t write him off, i give him mad props for standing up for what he believes in and pushing it. Not like the rest of the soapy tit wank pop stars of today who are too scared to have any comment about what is going on
We need more Ian Browns and Sinead’s to highlight what damage these men are doing to this world

I don’t rate illegal attacks at all. I’ve been listening to the album all day to see if it grows on me. I’ve read a lot of praise for the lyrics, but I’m not convinced their as brilliant as people are making out. This is far from his best work.

I actually put Illegal Attacks on a par with the track about America Morrissey did, which was also medicore. These tracks are hard to pull off and I don’t think Ina Brown has done anything extraordinary here. He’s done far more effective tracks than this. The lyrics aren’t clever. They’re verging on bland and ill-informed.
